TIME cover shoot of Ryan Lochte by Martin Schoeller

Martin Schoeller is quickly becoming one of my favorite photographers ever since I discovered his work at VH-Artists. That is why when I saw David Hobby’s post on the Strobist on his behind the scene TIME magazine shoot of Olympian swimmer Ryan Lochte, I had to check it out.

As David pointed out, in the BTS video, Martin and his crew draped the bottom and the sides of the swimming pool in order to prevent too much light from bouncing around inside the pool. That is how he was able to get that look for the TIME cover.

He also shot Ryan in the water from the bottom of the pool for a decidedly different look

Here is the link to the Behind The Scenes video it wont let me embed for some odd reason: CLICK HERE FOR VIDEO

Other Olympians
In addition to Ryan Lochte, Martin Schoeller also shot gymnast Gabby Douglas and track and field athlete Lolo Jones.

Martin Schoeller is a New York City–based photographer. See more of his work at MartinSchoeller.com
