Beginners Photography: What Is Aperture?

I get asked all the time what F-stop or Aperture setting should one use?
Why an image is soft and out of focused or dark or even blown out with light?

Here is a couple quick diagrams and a simple video on how to take advantage of your lens F-stop (Aperture) to make it work for your situation.

Having this small amount of knowledge will make your Photos and Videos look a lot better and cost you less time to fix in post.

Aperture Settings Adjust the Amount of Light Through the Camera Lens

The aperture is an adjustable opening on the lens of a camera that works like the iris in your eye. You can change the size of the aperture to let more or less light onto your film or your digital image sensors. You can use aperture along with film speed and shutter speed to let more light into the camera and also to change the way your pictures look.
